Literature Text

i. don't try to solve all my problems, dear lover
don't hide the truth, don't protect my
fragile heart in the name of chivalry:
i won't forgive you. i am no meek lady
to be wooed and courted, but a fierce
tigress, a warrior, with a heart full of fire
and galaxies weaved into my soul.

ii. trust me
trust is more powerful than love,
chrysanthemum whirls lust and tragic
fate, set your indifference aside tonight--
i cannot always trust the ones i love, but
i'll always love the ones i trust.

iii. don't expect me to obey you
your whims and exaggerated fantasies
all cage me, i cannot follow your rabbit
trails, (i'd rather leap down
the rabbit hole.)
my wings portray innocence, i admire
your mystery but you show a side of
me i do not understand.
run wild with me, we'll dream
magic, thunderstorms spiraling
calm, a hurricane in my heart and the
eye of the storm in yours.

iv. love me
these one night-stands
never seem to go to planned;
i still need love 'cause i'm
still human.
frigid draperies encircle your
heart, whispered promises in the dead
of night, past mistresses need not resurface,
they only torture you and anger me.

v. don't make promises you won't keep
i've suffered generalized statements,
("i love you" is too cliché)
your love is locked behind iron gates,
it kept us as separate as the sun and
the moon,
but at least Sun loved
Moon so much he
died every night
to let her breath.
(you did not.)

vi. be an artist
believe in the power of shadows,
violet sheens coating your paintbrush,
tulips glimmer in an unnatural fantasy,
paint me a blue sky and
don't turn it to rain,
we'll swim in a sapphire
sea and
i'll

vii. or even better, a writer
stain your lips with sentences,
tattoo your heart with poetry,
dream in rhyme and ink
your throat, stay up till 3 a.m.
missing me and convince yourself
i don't do the same, hide pieces of
your heart in others, lose yourself
in coffee shops and
calico kittens--
all to frustrate the heart and soul
that cannot stand not writing.
(don't torture yourself too much,
you'll end up like me.)

viii. release me
the key to loving a
wild thing with
a hurricane
in her heart and tiger-inked
eyes
is in freedom.
a cage will hurt me, chains
will crush me,
but they won't break me.
my love is untamable, physical
and not invincible, I cannot
love you like a mother loves her
child but the fierce way a
lion loves his pride.
(and love, be wild with me--
the sun will laugh and the moon
will curve gently, stealing glances
at Sun before she
disappears.)
